Burgess Hill Fairtrade Anthem

Fairtrade Anthem

We toil hard in the burning sun
And hope our crop will grow
This farming life is never done
But this is all we ever know

So when you shop until you drop
Stop and look around
Think of us who grew that crop
And what we’re paid to work this ground

We’re not looking for fortune
Not looking for fame
Just a foot on the ladder
A hand in the game
Where the playing field’s level
And the price we are paid
Will honour our labour
It’s based on Fairtrade

Coffee, bananas, cocoa, tea
Good food for you to eat
Scrumptious and yummy it may be
But we look on our child’s bare feet

So when you’re shopping in the town
Please think of what we’ve made
Look high and low and up and down
And buy more things that are Fairtrade

Chorus

When you buy your children’s shoes
Or go out for a meal
A better life you let us choose
By giving us that Fairtrade deal

With Fairtrade price for everyone
This world’s a better place
It’s time for justice to be done
A frown becomes a smiling face

Chorus
